Our history

The Villa Escudier wants to be a timeless establishment, where guests are treated differently, sometimes even as friends they become afterwards.
As our nurseryman André Eve used to say, " here we roll out the green carpet for our guests ".

A family history

The story begins in 1989 with the installation of Vera and Hugues Saint Guilhem at 64 rue Escudier in the house located at the bottom of the plot.

In the months that followed, they acquired the main building at 64, originally composed of small apartments on a basement of cellars.
It was at this moment that the crazy idea emerged...

After a year of work which allowed, among other things, to enhance the brick facades, to create the English courtyard and to have 14 hotel units, Vera welcomed her first client on a beautiful summer day in 1991.

A few months later, by chance, a classified advertisement in the Figaro newspaper led to the purchase of the pavilion located on the neighboring plot of land at 62 rue Escudier. The two plots of 62/64 were then joined together, and access to the pavilion through the garden of 64 was created. The hotel complex was then increased to 18 units with an enlarged garden.

A different place

"All the hotels looked the same, it was quite sad. I wanted to create something that especially did not look like a hotel, to bring a little warmth."

‍A
taste for travel... The pleasure of receiving... A love of flowers... Then quickly a passion for her job, led Véra to build a real haven of peace in the north of Boulogne, at the gates of Paris.

Influences that sometimes come from elsewhere... a love of hunting in flea markets... Hours spent at the Saint-Pierre market at the foot of the Montmartre hill in search of unusual fabrics... This is how, for example, she came to design the reception area as a living room, which sets the tone.

A haven of peace

The unique character of the place very quickly attracted a clientele seduced by the calm and the pleasure of its garden. An important clientele of French and foreign companies took its marks at this address. The family atmosphere associated with a personalized service kept this demanding clientele loyal...

The discretion of its location, away from the street and from prying eyes, also allowed it to attract from the beginning several finalists of the Roland Garros tournament and many great sportsmen and women whose photos can be found on the walls of the reception.

Acquisitions were then made over time in the building at 62 rue Escudier, allowing the Villa Escudier to expand again.

30 years of stories and anecdotes in this haven of peace...

What's next?

2020... Covid... It was at this time that Alexandre Saint Guilhem, Véra's eldest son, joined the Villa Escudier team to lend a hand in difficult times.

Very attached to the history of this magical place that marked his youth and in which he grew up, Alexandre gradually took over the family business in the footsteps of his mother. The adventure continues in the building at 62 Escudier, which is now fully exploited.

He has a lot of projects in mind, a history and a profession made up of encounters that are close to his heart... The garden has been given a new look to better integrate it into this new complex and to keep this place in the heart of the city with its country atmosphere.

What about the animals? If you come to the Villa Escudi, you will be greeted by our Hungarian Pointer, Odin. The latest addition to the Villa Escudier, the new mascot of the place makes the guests happy by always giving them his warmest welcome.
